RITA anyone?
The RITA finalists have been announced. Sadly, The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie did not final, though I hoped it would.
However--woo hoo! My novella in Hot for the Holidays ("A Little Night Magic") did final in the novella category. Score one for ALLYSON JAMES!!
AND for our own JOY NASH! A Little Light Magic, an awesome book, finalled in the novel with romantic elements category.
Also my friend Carolyn Jewel finalled in Regency for Scandal (another awesome book).
I see other friends on the list: Marjorie Liu, Alissa Johnson, and many more.
Yay us!
The whole list is posted here: http://www.rwanational.org/cs/2010_rita_finalists So, readers, do you agree? Are there books not there you think should be? (Keep in mind that the books had to be pubbed in 2009; also that not every author enters--some choose not to).

I was surprised that Madness didn't make it. It deserved to.
I'm excited about Elizabeth Hoyt's To Beguile A Best. That entire series was really good but that one was my favorite.
Congratulations to all! Celebrate your wonderful success!!
Congratulations! It was exciting to see so many familiar and favorite books nominated. There are always books I wish would make it, but I guess there are only so many slots. I bet a lot of the voting is very, very close.
Congrats to Jenn and Joy!
I posted all the Dorchester authors who made it over at www.emilybryan.blogspot.com. Good luck, girls!
Congratulations, Jennifer, Joy and Carolyn, and good luck to you all. Quite a few of my personal favorites nominated this year.
I was surprised Lord Ian didn't make the list. There were a few new authors I thought would be included that weren't.
Congratulations to all the finalists. I have no desire to ever be a judge.
librarypat: I judge the RITAs every year (not in the categories I enter, of course), and I enjoy it. I discover new-to-me authors and some great books. This year I got a couple fantastic ones in my batch that sadly I didn't see on the finals list. But unless five different judges from five walks of life agree that that book deserves a top score, it doesn't make the finals. You can miss it by a hairsbreadth! So I'd bet some of the books you thought you'd see and didn't either a) weren't entered; of b) missed it by that hair.
I was really rooting for Lord Ian to make the list, Jenn. I'm very surprised it didn't.
I was thrilled that my Jersey Shore contemp, A Little Light Magic made the cut -(not Silver Silence as you noted in the blog, though that book was entered, too)
And I'm happy your novella A Little NIGHT Magic finaled!
LOL. People might think we got together to brainstorm titles last year...
I corrected the title, Joy. I don't know why I thought it said Silver Silence; probably because I liked it so much! But Little Light Magic was a neat book, and such a fun read. I loved it.
Yes, I firmly believe we hit on the right titles! (Completely by coincidence--that was weird!)
